Five Trip Options

  • {chattanooga, tn}

    We work at the Chattanooga Community Kitchen, which serves four meals a day to the underserved population of downtown Chattanooga. Along with the food program, the Community Kitchen has been growing by leaps and bounds over the past decade adding to its service a job training program, clothing donations, healthcare, a day shelter, a community recycling program, transitional family housing and a thrift store. In our free time there is much to see and do including hiking on Lookout Mountain, visiting the Tennessee Aquarium and the Railroad Museum, and stopping in at Ruby Falls and Rock City.

  • {cranks creek, ky}

    One of the oldest and most beloved of SBIA trips, this one to southeastern Kentucky is always a great time.  The Cranks Creek Survival Center was started by Becky and Bobby Simpson over 20 years ago, offering services to the surrounding community in times of need.  Cranks Creek is in Harlan County, Kentucky, and is home to both kind people and interesting history.  Becky and Bobby have made a huge difference in their community, and they love having Georgetown students come down every year to help with building and other tasks.

  • {south boston, va}

    In South Boston, VA students will be working with the Southside Outreach Group, an organization that helps provide affordable housing to low-income families. Our time will be spent on various projects including roofing, painting and constructing handicap ramps. South Boston is hosting a group of university students for the first time and is eager to introduce volunteers to its close-knit community and small-town culture.

  • {st. paul, va}

    Grace House on the Mountain is one of the more rural sites to which SBIA travels.  Located outside of St. Paul, VA, the Grace House is an excellent place to enjoy the quiet beauty of southern Virginia while helping out the community.   We will work with 2-3 families on various tasks at their houses. The perks of going to St. Paul include working during the day and enjoying blue grass music and a home-cooked Appalachian dinner one night.

  • {wheeling, wv}

    We will work at a soup kitchen and help with some construction work to a community center in this industrial-based, river city in the steel belt of the mountain regions.  Meals and evening entertainment will be provided by members of the community.  Wheeling is home to Capitol Music Hall, the oldest country music jamborees in the U.S.
