Worker Justice: Washington, DC and Catholic Social Teaching Worker Justice ProgramWashington, DC and Catholic Social Teaching March 2nd - 7th, 2008
Combine social justice action and overview of Catholic Social Teaching in one week's experience. During this action-oriented week, you will interact with low-wage and immigrant service workers who are struggling to make ends meet in Washington, DC. The program includes outreach to workers about the legislation considered in the DC City Council and at least one direct action (such as a rally or prayer vigil) in support of workers. The program partners with Interfaith Worker Justice, the DC Labor Federation, and Jobs With Justice. You will hear and learn about labor issues in DC how you and others can make a difference. The week will also include sessions to learn more about what Catholic Social Teaching says about justice for workers and reflect on what your faith calls you to do. Be prepared to be shocked at the underbelly of the economy and energized by the courage of those fighting for changes. Participants will stay in their own housing, but will have meals together. The participant fee is $125.00 and includes all costs (transportation, site fees, and food) except personal expenses.
