ASK Program

~Tutoring and Mentoring Washington, DC's Adjudicated Youth Since 1987~

After School Kids Program

ASK Program DescriptionASK Program Logo

The After School Kids (ASK) Program provides tutoring and mentoring services to youth involved in Washington, DC's juvenile justice system.  Since its establishment in 1987, the ASK Program has grown into a well-regarded opportunity for youth on probation and Georgetown University students to develop meaningful relationships with each other.

The ASK Program trains Georgetown University students to be tutor/mentors whose role it is to support the ASK Program youth in successfully completing their probation by:

  • Mentoring participants to develop skills and attitudes necessary to successfully transition to adulthood;
  • Improving participants' educational standing by tutoring them to improve grades and standardized test scores;
  • Reducing recidivism and other destructive behaviors; and
  • Strengthening the inter-personal skills and communications of the participants to elevate self-esteem, self-respect and respect for authority figures in their lives.
