GU HERE: Hurricane Relief 2010
Alternative Spring Break 2010
Who?
20 Georgetown students and 4 College Deans
Where?
Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. We work with the Diocesan Office of Long-Term Relief (DOLTR) and stay in facilities they provide.
What?
For the past 3 years, GUHERE has been dedicated to providing a hurricane relief effort to the Gulf Coast region of the United States. This year, we will work with Biloxi's Diocesan Office of Long-Term Relief to partner with local families and help to rebuild their homes. In addition to the relief work, we'll get a taste of both social justice issues and Mississippi culture in our non-working hours. Past activities have included guest speakers, a crawfish bake, a drag race, and dinner with local Georgetown alumni. We're also hoping to spend a few hours in New Orleans on our way back to Georgetown to learn about another experience of Hurricane Katrina.
